MIAMI (September 1st, 2017) – Entercom Communications Corporation announced they have selected the Celebration of the Sea Foundation as the official charity of the Riptide Music Festival. Attended by over 30,000 people each year on Fort Lauderdale beach the event serves as South Florida’s largest alternative and classic hits music festival. This year’s event will be held on December 2nd and 3rd and will be headlined by leading acts such as K.C. & The Sunshine Band, Foreigner’s Lou Gramm, Salt-N-Pepa, Morris Day & The Time, Loverboy, Cage The Elephant, Weezer, Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness, and many more.
As the official charity of Riptide, the Celebration of the Sea Foundation will produce and host the event’s “Celebration of the Sea Pavilion” which will feature a wide variety of environmental education and community resiliency exhibits and activities. Celebration of the Sea will be working with leading brands to create large-scale public events and activations that inspire, educate and engage people around the world to protect the ocean and natural resources. A specific focus of the pavilion will focus on the development of resilient communities and STREAM (Science, Technology, Recreation, Engineering, Arts & Music) education.
Riptide’s “Celebration of the Sea Pavilion” is designed to provide corporate partners with unique opportunities to increase over-arching awareness towards community resilience and environmental conservation as the hub of all the amazing interactive experiences that Riptide attendees post, share and continue to talk about for years to come. This pavilion will also include unique activations such as the “Eco-Discovery Zone,” which was recently produced at the Miami Marine Stadium by Celebration of the Sea through a unique collaboration with world renowned marine artist Wyland. The Eco-Discovery Zone™ promotes habitat protection and environmental stewardship as well as problem solving and critical thinking skills, hands-on-science and student career paths for STREAM, which are critical to South Florida’s economy. The exhibits feature a wide variety of exciting and innovative environmental and educational hands-on activities and exhibits including live animals, touch tanks, live stage performances, tour guides, games, and video displays. These activities are co-hosted by a wide variety of leading educational, scientific and civic organizations.
“We are thrilled to announce Celebration of the Sea as our official charity for Riptide and be collaborating to address the critical environmental issues that are pressing our community,” says Doug Abernethy, Entercom’s Vice President and Market Manager. “Through our innovative collaboration with Celebration of the Sea, not only will we be providing this large scale public activation to help engage and educate the public, but additionally we will including extensive media assets such as a combination of on-air, experiential, event, digital and social media to also educate and engage millions of our listeners every month. This will be a 360 degree approach to supporting the amazing work Celebration of the Sea is doing with its corporate partners for our community”.
“We are very proud to have been selected to serve as Entercom’s official charity for the Riptide Festival. They provide an extraordinary example for other companies to follow. It shows business leaders how they can directly help the public understand and address critically important environmental and resiliency related issues facing South Florida today.” says Patxi Pastor, Celebration of the Sea Founder and CEO. Pastor produced numerous other recent large-scale public events on resiliency while promoting STREAM careers for students. He also served as a keynote speaker at the Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce’s “Big Ideas Conference” which was attended by over a hundred South Florida business leaders.
“We need to once again lead the world in inspiring and educating the public in STREAM related careers. It is crucial that we begin focusing our efforts on all the science, critical thinking and problem solving that is urgently needed, so we can develop successful future strategies in our communities to address our pressing environmental and resiliency challenges,” says Pastor.
